HM assures support to police dept in modernization of APP
ITANAGAR, May 24: Home Minister Takar Marde assured his fullest support to the state police department to modernize the Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) in order to increase efficieny and deliver better services to its citizens.
Marde, who visited Police Headquarter today for the first time after assuming charge as minister, took a keen interest on various proposals of the state police department which are at different stages of implementation and assured his support in the modernization of APP.
He exhorted different ranks of APP to consider their uniform as a symbol of public service and perform their duties.

Many were taken aback when a Delhi based journalist declared that Nyishis do not share good rapport with other tribes of Arunachal. One can’t help but admit that some people have in them the capacity to come up with such sweeping generalizations. After initial anger and disbelief at the journalist, frustration set in.
As a fellow journalist, yours truly is left wondering how a journalist could possibly write something as unpleasant. Individual differences apart but dragging a whole community is in extreme bad taste that deserves condemnation from all. A class one student would know that though we elect our representatives, we have no say in who becomes the Chief Minister. The Nyishis or any other tribes do not elect a Chief Minister. It is the elected representatives that decide who they want as a leader of the state.
Reactions were bound to happen and anger of the citizens of the state was justified too. But then how and where it happened left yours truly saddened and disgusted.
No matter how hurt we were with the comments of a person who seemed to have picked up a wrong profession, taking out anger in Itanagar for what someone sitting in Delhi wrote is uncalled for.
A media house was vandalized on May 8 as a repercussion to the news item and related issues. It is yet to hit the stands and it is unlikely that it will soon. How does one justify such angry outburst?
Media in Arunachal is used to such bullying tactics but than what is utterly disheartening is the total silence by the self serving civil society organizations, community based organizations, which more or less has communal agenda and government and the students including the Arunachal Pradesh Students Union and North East Students Union. Does their silence mean that they justify violence and deliberate chocking of the media?
After repeated assault like this over the years and deafening silence that follows, one must admit that it is foolish to expect any support from any quarters.
On the other hand, ANSU which have been spearheading a movement against the journalist have taken up the issue at the right earnest. Though the Union has taken up the issue but the approach it has adopted has diluted the issue itself.
If an FIR has been filled either in Delhi or Itanagar, law will take its course of action. It is just a matter of time that the journalist in question will be arrested. Union need to put efforts to ensure that law which walks on a snail pace is made to hurry up.
But then demanding the shifting of a newspaper out of Nyishi dominated area and Capital complex, for whatever reason and calling a bandh is questionable and absurd.
The journalist in all probability must be basking in glory in the fact that Itanagar is burning and every Arunachalee that read local newspapers know who he is and where he works.
While the issue continues to make headlines, the politicians and political parties have maintained stoic silence. Not that we expect much from them since they are much smarter than we think they are, but there are times when we wish that they show some leadership quality and come out and take a stand. As someone said with power comes responsibility but than our trust and their responsibility seems misplaced.
ITANAGAR, May 24: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen JJ Singh and Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin has congratulated Anshu Jamsenpa for carving a niche in the mountaineering history by becoming the first woman mountaineer in the world to reach the summit of Mount Everest twice in the same season.
Jamsenpa, the leader of the International Everest Expedition team scaled the world highest peak for the second time on 21st May 2011.
She had made it to the summit ten days earlier on 12th May.
Jamsenmpa and Tine Mena, who also scaled the world’s highest peak on 9th May are the living testimonies of energy and stamina of Northeast people, the Governor said in a message.
Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin in his message has congratulated Anshu Jamsenpa for creating a world record of scaling the Mt Everest twice in the same season. In his message he said that Anshu has already become the role model for the youths of the state while adding that the achiever would bring more laurels for the people of the state.
The newly inducted Minister of Tourism & WRD Pema Khandu has also extended his congratulations to Anshu Jamsenpa and Tine Mena for achieving the very rare feat of success by summiting the Mt Everest.
While congratulating Tine Mena for becoming the first lady from the state to scale the highest peak of the world and Anshu for setting a world record, Pema said these two girls have made all Arunachalees proud. Pema hoped that the youngsters would follow the suit of these brave ladies and bring more such laurels to the state of Arunachal Pradesh.
East Kameng resolves to act tough
against absenteeism
ITANAGAR, May 24: East Kameng Deputy Director of School Education, Arunachal Teachers’ Association East Kameng district unit (ATAEKDU) and AASSATAEKDU in a coordination meeting held at BRC building Seppa on May 21 last resolved to take bold step against teachers’ absenteeism from the schools in the district.
The coordination meeting presided over by DDSE Kata Rangmo further resolved to make joint efforts for development of school infrastructure and improvement of academic activities.
While discussing the problems in all round development of education sector as well remedial measures, the coordination meeting also decided to introduce district level teacher award for both regular and SSA teachers to be conferred on Teacher Day every year and rationalize teachers in all schools in the district.
It was further decided that both the district units of ATA and ASSATA will extend support to the DDSE in its action against any defaulters in education department in the district and delegation of the units led by DDSE will meet education minister and other competent authorities to apprise them of the educational problems and to make strategies for smooth running of the department, according to an ATAEKDU release.
Tawang pays homage to Rajiv Gandhi
TAWANG, May 24: People from all walks of life conducted a massive sanitation drive within the Tawang township to mark the 20th death anniversary of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on May 21. The sanitation drive was organized by the Tawang DCC.
Earlier in the morning, Congress workers led by DCC general secretary Pema Wangchuk paid floral tribute to the portrait of Rajiv Gandhi. The party workers were also administered pledge to follow the path shown by the late prime minister.
All the heads of the department in their concerned departments also administered a pledge to oppose all forms of terrorism and fight the disruptive forces. DIPRO
ITANAGAR, May 24: All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) said that it primarily stands for the welfare of Nyishi community as like any other community based organization yet it is a matured organization and respect individuality of every tribes of Arunachal and holds them in high esteem.
Our movement for justice has been misconstrued by many, it said while refereeing to the recent imbroglio invonlving a derogatory comment from the New Delhi based journalist. It said that Union’s movement is not directed against any particular community.

Masters Programme on Social Sciences with 120 students per year. Thus, there would

Assam Government has already identified the land required for the above purpose.
EDP training on “food and fruit processing”
Basar, May 24: A five days Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) on “Food and Fruit Processing” has started today at ICAR, Arunachal Pradesh Centre, Basar. The programme is sponsored by the District Industries Centre, West Siang District and is being conducted in collaboration with KVK, West Siang and ICAR, AP Centre, Basar. Altogether 32 farmers and rural youths were registered in the training programme.
Dr. R. Bhagawati, Joint Director, ICAR, Basar highlighted the importance of food and fruit processing and gave emphasis on processing of locally available fruits and vegetables.
Commissioner, Industries, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh M. Pertin, told the farmers and rural youths to come forward and actively participate in the training programme. He also assured to revamp the existing IIDC located at Bame and to provide necessary help to the local entrepreneurs.
Dr. S. Sinde, ADC, Basar motivated the participants to develop small scale processing industry through his enlightened speech. He promised for every possible help from the administration side and will organize a meeting very soon between the officials of ICAR, DIC and entrepreneurs for the upliftment of processing industry at Basar.
Kenmar Basar, ZPM, Basar and Jonya Basar, Chairperson, ASM, Basar also addressed the gathering during the inaugural session. The technical session started with a hand on practical on preparation of guava jelly wherein Dr. P. Sarma, SMS, Horticulture & Course Coordinator of the programme highlighted the procedure for preparation of guava jelly. As a resource person, B. Saloi, Prog. Asst. (Home Science) and S. Baruah, Prog. Asstt. (Farm Management) carried out the demonstration on preparation of guava jelly to the participants.
ITANAGAR, May 24: Sanskar Bharati Arunachal Pradesh organized a five days workshop on classical dance, music and painting at Green Lawn School Changlang from May 11 to 16. The main motto of the workshop was to provide basic cultural education and training to the upcoming generation and provide platform to artistes to expose their hidden talent. Amit Kumar Mukharjee, Kothak dancer, Suchandana Mukharjee, vocalist from Nrityangan Dance and Music Academy, Itanagar and Moni Kumar Bordoloi, Painter and sculpture from Morigaon district of Assam were the resource persons in the workshop in which 47 participants from different schools of Changlang took part.

Federation unit resents carelessness
ITANAGAR, May 24: Claiming that All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) secretary general Dobing Sonam was injured at Chevrolet car showroom here recently due to utter negligence on the part of showroom authorities, AAPPTF West Kameng District unit said that such accident may occur in near future if the owner of the showroom does not take precautionary measures at the earliest. Sonam reportedly crashed into the glass door of the showroom recently.
The Federation unit resented that the showroom did not have any first aid facilities to cater to the emergency needs of the victims and the glass used were of low quality and not coated with plastic which caused to multiple injuries to Sonam.

To a father from a daughter
Dear Editor,
This is in connection to a father's support to a daughter. I want to salute to 'the father' who is with his daughter at when she needs it the most.
I know whatever we say it'll never ease the pain she is going through but it’s just simple gesture to show my support.
Its really shameful for the people of Arunachal that things like this are now happening every now. Where is the peace love Arunachal? If the daughters are not safe in their own home then god knows what will happen to them outside.
Its not about the Women Commission, the politicians, the higher authorities or any union to think, but it’s a question for all the citizens of so called peace loving Arunachal.
Today, the father, Kangge Pertin is fighting for the justice. Who knows, the next person shouting out for justice can be you.

To see the positive qualities of any individual who has been of help to us in a moment of crisis and to offer our gratitude seems to have become a virtue of the primitive times. The modern man looks only at the negative points of individuals thus discouraging the very noble humane elements of good people.
My son's Pulsar Motorcycle has stolen on 14th May around 7.30 pm from Vivek Vihar. I asked my son to rush to Police Station, Itanagar, the very next day because my son returned around 11 PM after having launched his own combing operation. He was in tears.

Beware of ladies!
Dear Editor,
Apart from those reckless, unauthorized under aged riders and inebriated drivers there is one more distinct cluster of drivers specialized in causing much disharmony to the smooth and normal flow of traffic and are unmistakably a potent on road danger. If the car cruising ahead has a deviant acceleration with anomalous driving characteristics like claiming the maximum portion of the broad highway ignoring the following vehicles, not making way irrespective of repeated honks but has an exceptionable liberty to overtake from either side, suddenly turns without signals, brakes abruptly etc. Beware ! A lady could be the driving incharge. No matter how much hours they spend behind the driving wheel their skills fail to improve much more than that during their maiden drive and refuse to out grow the nascent state perpetually. Instances are abound when one has to go through painful moments due to dents and scratches inflicted on one's car by a driving lady, who is technically not in full control of her machine. My car too has been a victim on one or two occasions of such involuntary mechanical kisses resultantly I had to fish out a good amount of cash to bring back the deformation though not totally but to an acceptable shape. It is always advisable to keep an arm's length particularly from those with a boastful 'L' on windscreen. So guys, next time, if you have to squeeze your spotless car into a congested parking lot, make sure it is not atleast behind or adjacent to a vehicle parked by a lady, dreadfully, they are distinguished to be at their worst best when operating the reverse gear.

Take the right course of action
Dear Editor,
It is unfortunate to see in that the controversy of ANSU and press is still prevailing
in the state. ANSU is claiming that they are not dictating the press in one hand
but on the other hand demanding for resignation of Arunachal Press Club President
and shifting of the Sentinel Arunachal out from Capital Complex/Nyishi belt for non-
If this is not dictating to press then what is dictating? It is well known by everybody that the decision to publish depends entirely on press not by the organization or any individual.
If the ANSU is not satisfied with the apology tendered by P. Thakur, they should rather go legally against him or TOI as per existing law.
The public will definitely support the genuine demand against Takhur but not against any Sentinel or any Arunachal press. The capital bandh seems to be not the solution. Hope ANSU will act maturely and reconsider their demands for the interest of the whole state.

Hitler might be dead, but Fascism not
Dear Editor,
In his letter titled "It is annoying"( 20 May), John Tasso expresses his anger against me for my sin of "writing letters for Kolkata, West Bengal and criticising the national language"!
Firstly, Hindi is not India's national language and I challenge all to refute me. Secondly, if lodging protest against imposition of Hindi at the expense of local languages is dubbed as "criticism" of the language, then so be it. Actually the likes of Tasso are worshippers of the mighty and since they know that the political and economic might of the Hindiwallahs far exceed that of the marginal Bengalis, they feel no qualms in accepting Hindi when imposed in Arunachal Pradesh, but raise a hue and cry if few letters revolving Bengal see the light of the day in the state's leading daily.

And I want to direct a single question to Shanu Monin who, in his letter titled "No
space for personal ego"(20 May), stressed that Reader's Forum of Arunachal Times
is a "public space" and so the letters of Kajal Chatterjee and Sumon Das should be
banned! Am I or we not a part of public? I do not support a single word of Sumon
Das, but I firmly believe that no one holds any right to gag his voice also. Since
I am confident of myself that I can pose concrete answers to his allegations, I welcome

Also it is a personal setback for me that despite my love and respect for Arunachal Pradesh and its people and languages, certain readers of that very state have not hesitated to make personal attacks on me and are trying their outmost to throttle my voice. However, I will continue to act according to my conscience and love Arunachal Pradesh, but with a heavy heart.

Dear Editor ,
This is reference to the recent discussions among various writers in the reader`s view regarding the writers Kajal and Das. I read Arunachal Times almost daily and the first thing I read is Reader`s Forum.
So far whatever they wrote doesn’t seem to be a waste of space. They share information that is based on certain background. And whatever the two writers are debating in the topics posted, it is the editor who reads first and he/she knows whether the article is worthy enough to be published.
So, it is my appeal to the fellow Arunachalis not to blame anyone for filling the space. Freedom of writing is given to everyone. If your article seems more important, then it will replace the less valued one. How it is to be decided, let us give this job to the editor.
